Another sectoral meeting was held for representatives of the health sector regarding the changes outlined in the new law of Georgia "On Personal Data Protection".

Health information is a special category of data, and the new law defines new rules and standards for the processing of such special category data.

Obtaining consent in the process of processing health information; new principles of data processing; production and data minimization in medical documentation; handling voluminous electronic databases; arrangement of service spaces; processing of data related to minors - the heads of the departments of the public sector, private sector, planned inspection, and supervision of law enforcement bodies provided the audience with information about these and other important issues. The meeting was opened by the First Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, Dr. Otar Chakhunashvili, with a welcome speech.

The meeting was held in an interactive mode, and the attending public had the opportunity to receive detailed information on issues of interest to them.  

Representatives from the occupied territories of Georgia, the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Protection, public law legal entities/non-entrepreneurial legal entities/sub-departmental institutions, and other structures exercising public authority were present. Additionally, the State Insurance Supervision Service, insurance companies, clinics, dental clinics, outpatient clinics, laboratories, representatives of pharmacies, and associations attended.

The primary provisions of the new law of Georgia “On Personal Data Protection” will come into force on March 1, 2024. The purpose of the Service is for all data processors to be prepared for the implementation of the law.
