The Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia held an information meeting with representatives from the public and private sectors in the city of Batumi

In order to get acquainted with the news provided by the new Law of Georgia "On Personal Data Protection," the Service held a meeting with representatives of the public and private sectors in the city of Batumi.

The meeting was opened by Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili, the President of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, Dr. Otar Chakhunashvili, the First Deputy President, and Davit Gabaidze, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

According to Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili, the New Law of Georgia "On Personal Data Protection" will establish a sustainable and effective mechanism for protecting personal data, with a focus on safeguarding human rights, and it will also lead to improvements in legislation related to personal data protection.  

At the meeting, Archil Javelidze, the Head of the Private Sector Oversight Department of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, and Nikoloz Popiashvili, the Head of the Office of the President of Service, delivered an extensive presentation to the representatives from the public and private sectors.

The speakers emphasized the necessary measures for implementing the New Law of Georgia “On Personal Data Protection” in both the public and private sectors. The discussion during the meeting covered crucial topics such as the assessment of the impact on data protection, the criteria for identifying incidents that pose a significant threat to fundamental human rights and freedoms, and the role of the Data Protection Officer. They also highlighted the responsibilities outlined in the new law and the updated rules governing their application.

The meeting was initiated and organized by the private sector.

It should be noted that the Parliament of Georgia adopted the New Law "On Personal Data Protection" in June of this year. The majority of the law will become effective on March 1, 2024, with specific provisions taking effect on June 1.

The Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia will actively continue to organize sector-specific and various format meetings to raise awareness about the New Law of Georgia “On Personal Data Protection”.
