Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili held the meeting with the head of the Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority of Latvia

Within the framework of the EU project – “Support to Security Sector Oversight in Georgia”, Jekaterina Macuka, the head of the personal data protection supervisory authority of Latvia, visited the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia on an expert mission.

During the working meeting, Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili, the President of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, shared information regarding the Service's activities with the expert, the project team leader, and representatives. The president also discussed the implementation of the new law of Georgia “On Personal Data Protection,” emphasizing the importance of sharing best practices from European data protection supervisory authorities in this process. 

Expert Jekaterina Macuka reviewed the planned activities within the expert mission and shared the experience of the Latvian Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority on legislative innovations and institutions provided by the new law to the employees of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia.

The European Union project — “Support to Security Sector Oversight in Georgia”, among other issues, aims to strengthen personal data protection in law enforcement agencies, for which purpose it is planned to organize workshops for law enforcement authorities on the topic of personal data protection, develop training programs and information materials, support the establishment of a cooperation and experience sharing mechanism with the personal data protection supervisory authorities of the member states of the European Union.
