The Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia conducted an informative training session for the employees of the LEPL-Social Service Agency, focusing on the changes envisaged by the new law of Georgia “On Personal Data Protection”.

The meeting delved into the amendments provided by the new law and their interplay with the existing regulation. Taking into account the interest of the audience and the specificity of the activity, particular emphasis was placed on topics including the principles and grounds for data processing, consent of the data subject, special categories of data, data subject’s rights, and video monitoring. Furthermore, the training dedicated considerable attention to the concepts and mechanisms introduced by the new law, including issues such as audio monitoring, the role of the personal data protection officer, the right to data portability ("porting"), automated decision-making, incident reporting, data protection impact assessments, and administrative penalties.

The meeting was conducted interactively and approximately 30 employees of the agency attended it. During the question-and-answer segment, participants offered various insightful opinions, which hold significant importance in shaping the discourse and practices surrounding the new law.

The training was led by the Head of the Legal Department of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, Davit Karashvili, and the Lawyer of the Legal Department - Saba Elizbarashvili.

It's noteworthy that the LEPL-Social Service Agency is one of the largest data controllers among public institutions. Consequently, holding such meetings for its employees represents a significant step toward enhancing the standards of data subject’s rights protection in the process of the agency's activities.

In the future, representatives from the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia will conduct informative public lectures and training sessions aimed at increasing public awareness.
