The First Meeting of the Working Group on Further Capacity Building of the Personal Data Protection Service and Special Investigation Service

Head of Personal Data Protection Service, Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili, and First Deputy Head, Dr. Otar Chakhunashvili participated in the first meeting of the legal issues committee working group. The working group, which was established in the Parliament, works on the issues of further institutional strengthening of the Personal Data Protection Service and the Special Investigation Service.

At the meeting, Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili presented a strategic development vision for the institutional strengthening of the Personal Data Protection Service.

"To increase independence and efficiency, the Personal Data Protection Service considers several strategic tasks, the first of which is, of course, the improvement of the Georgian legislation on personal data protection, its advancement, compliance with the European standard. Also, there are financial issues, human resources, regional coverage. The increase of the regional representation of the Personal Data Protection Service. Also, there are guarantees of social security for the employees of the Personal Data Protection Service and a number of issues, which will continue to be worked on within the framework of the working group," said Dr. Dr., Lela Janashvili.

The Working Group is composed of members of the Faction “Georgian Dream” and particular opposition party groups, as well as the representatives of the PDPS, SIS, administration of government, Prosecutor’s Office, State Security Service, Public Defender’s Office, and civil society (National Platform of EaP Civil Society Forum).
