Georgian delegation submitted the 5th periodic report of Georgia on the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights to the Human Rights Committee of the United Nations. The Georgian side provided comprehensive information to the UN Human Rights Committee after hearing the previous periodic report - on the legislative and institutional reforms carried out by the State from 2014 until now, which aims at effective protection of human rights in Georgia and proper fulfillment of international obligations.

The First Deputy Head of the Personal Data Protection Service - Otar Chakhunashvili and the Head of the International Relations, Analytics and Strategic Development Department - Ana Tokhadze presented the Personal Data Protection Service at the meeting. Otar Chakhunashvili answered the Committee members’ questions and spoke regarding the mandate of the Personal Data Protection Service within the scope of the supervision of covert investigative actions. 

 

The UN Human Rights Committee has positively assessed the mechanisms introduced by Georgia to ensure the implementation of the recommendations of the UN Treaty Bodies. Following the discussion, the recommendations of the Committee will be provided to the Georgian delegation in writing, and the report on the implementation of the recommendations will be sent in 2024.
