The Winners of the Essay Contests on Personal Data Protection Issues were Awarded

15 authors of the best essays on personal data protection issues were revealed. Sophio Jiadze, the Deputy State Inspector and Giorgi Kldiashvili, the Executive Director of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) handed over certificates and symbolic gifts to the winning students.

The contest was announced on 14 May and aimed to raise public awareness on personal data protection issues and promote student development.

In the course of the contest, the participating students prepared papers and presented their opinions on topical issues such as personal data protection in labor relations, personal data protection during video surveillance, personal data processing by facial recognition systems, personal data processing by mobile applications, current challenges of data security, personal data processing by media, personal data protection and accessibility of public information.  

The best participants were revealed among 60 contestants from different higher educational institutions by a two-sided commission comprising of the representatives of the State Inspector’s Service and the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI). As a result of the process, 15 selected essays will be published in the form of an electronic journal. In addition, 3 authors of the best papers were named:

I place – Natia Mepharishvili, the student of the Law Faculty of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University

II place – Tamar Mekhrishvili, the student of the International Relations Faculty of Free University

The topic of the essay: current challenges for data security

III place – Mariam Giorgadze, the student of the Law Faculty of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University

It should be noted that in the process of preparation of the papers, the contestants were actively supported by the participants of the project “Personal Data Protection Ambassadors” of the State Inspector’s Service.

The contest was organized with the support of the Embassy of the Netherlands to Georgia, by the State Inspector’s Service and the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI).

The State Inspector’s Service will continue to promote raising awareness of students and young people in the future.
