For the purpose of evaluating personal data protection in the process of migration management and assessing the results of the progress achieved since 2015, the presentation of the study was held with the public agencies.

The study was prepared by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in collaboration with the State Inspector’s Service. The event was opened by Salome Bakhsoliani, Deputy State Inspector, the Project Officer of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), Ketevan Gorgoshidze and a personal data protection expert, Tamar Kaldani.

Large volumes of personal data is processed in the process of migration management. Hence, studies of similar type are helpful to properly assess existing challenges, needs and the steps taken in this respect. This is important for defining a future action plan and implementing targeted measures.

It should be noted that similar study was prepared in Georgia in 2015. 2020 progress report aims to review relevant legislative amendments, institutional and practical changes and identify the best practices in the field of migration in terms of personal data protection.

The report highlights the important role and impact of the State Inspector’s Service in raising standard of personal data protection and introduction of good practices.

For the organizations involved in the migration management process, the study also includes recommendations on the measures to be implemented to improve personal data protection in this respect.

The study was prepared by Tamar Kaldani, personal data protection expert.
