The State Inspector’s Service Got Involved in The Process Of Retraining School Teachers

The State Inspector’s Service conducted training of trainers on personal data protection issued for the directors of general educational institutions and teachers. The trainings were conducted within the framework of distance learning course organized by the Public Defender’s Office and it was aimed to capacity building of school teachers on human rights issues.

Lawful processing of personal data, as well as minors’ data, has become even more topical during COVID-19 pandemic and in the process of distance learning. For better fulfilment of functions by educational institutions and due to the processing of big amount of data in the process of distance learning, the importance of ensuring high standard of privacy and personal data protection has increased. 

The participants of the training delivered by the State Inspector’s Service were introduced to the national standards of personal data protection, duties of data processors, data subjects’ rights, regulations for video surveillance and data security issues. In the course of the training, the responsibilities of data processors during distance learning, problematic issues revealed in the Service practice and relevant recommendations were underlined. Within the framework of the training, the existing cases in the practice of the Service and the precedential examples were discussed.

The distance learning was conducted in two stages and covered more than 150 participants. The learning process was led by the representatives of the State Inspector’s Service – Maia demetrashvili and Lela Gvishiani.

The training of trainers was implemented for the trainers of the National Centre for Teacher Professional Development, heads and deputy heads of the programs, as well as for the consultant teachers. The project is organized by the Office of the Public Defender and is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. In future, trained trainers will conduct the course through the website edex.emis.ge and continue to educate other teachers on human rights issues.
