A Bilateral Memorandum Was Signed For Establishing High Standards Of Personal Data Protection In The Process Of Mediation

The State Inspector’s Service and LEPL the Georgian Association of Mediators signed a bilateral memorandum of understanding. The memorandum was signed by Londa Toloraia, The State Inspector and Irakli Kandashvili, head of the Georgian Association of Mediators. The memorandum aims to establish high standards of personal data protection in the field of mediation and to develop cooperation between the institutions in this direction. 

In the process of mediation, which enables parties to resolve disputes without court proceedings, personal data including sensitive data of participating parties of mediation is being processed. In the framework of the memorandum, the State Inspector’s Service, as an authority tasked with supervising personal data protection and LEPL the Georgian Association of mediators, as an authority responsible for regulating mediators’ activities, will cooperate in the direction of preparing legal documents that regulate personal data processing in the process of mediation, enhancing data processing processes, raising mediators awareness on personal data protection issues and providing legal consultations on the issues relating to data processing in practical activities of mediators. 

The State Inspector’s Service welcomes the initiative and willingness of the LEPL Georgian Association of Mediators to establish high standards of personal data protection and to ensure the protection of important values such as confidentiality and privacy in the very first stage of developing mediation institute in Georgia.
