The Parliament of Georgia Adopted the Amendments in The Law On “State Inspector’s Service” with the Third Hearing

The Parliament of Georgia adopted the draft law on amendments of the law on “the State Inspector’s Service”.

The law entitles the State Inspector’s Service with the function of investigation and the right to perform operative-investigate activities, for that reason, it is planned to add new positions of operative and expert-criminalist personnel in the investigation unit of the State Inspector’s Service.

Under the same amendments, it is envisaged, that the Deputy State Inspector shall address to the Supervisor Prosecutor within 14 days instead of 20,  to reduce the time to reduce the time from 20 days to 14 for the respective Deputy State Inspector to address the supervisor prosecutor of the case whereas the specified time for adding new evidence to the shreds of evidence for presenting to the court will be repealed.  Additionally, the individuals who have passed the special qualification exams for judges, prosecutors or advocates specialized in the criminal law or with generalized specialization, will not be obliged to pass the qualification exam to be appointed on the position of the State Inspector Service investigator.

Also, it is intended to implement an internship programme in the State Inspector’s Service.

Additionally, the group of people having the status of an investigator will be specified. In particular, apart from the investigators, the status of the State Inspector Service’s investigator will be granted to the chairmen of the investigation unit of the State Inspector Service.

Investigative power of the State Inspector’s Service will enter into force on 1 November, 2019.
