Personal Data, Visa Free Travel and Migration

Visa free travel to the European Union, migration and personal data- information meeting for journalists was held in Borjomi, on 1-2 April, 2017. Representatives of the Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector and international organisations addressed around 30 representatives of television, print and online media. The meeting was attended by the State Minister on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Mr Victor Dolidze.

Representatives of the Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector, the Head of International Relations Department Nina Sarishvili and Training Manager Natalia Mikeladze delivered presentations regarding the importance of the personal data protection, Inspector’s mandate, existing challenges and activities of the Inspector’s Office.

The participants were particularly interested in the existing challenges in terms of personal data protection accompanied to the technological progress. The topics of discussion further included the right to be forgotten, direct marketing, the balance between the right to privacy and the freedom of expression.

The meeting was organised with the assistance of International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) within the framework of the project “ENNIGMA”. The project is funded by the European Union.
