Studies in the Winter School on Personal Data Protection were completed

Mechanisms of personal data protection, the Inspector’s mandate, Georgian and international legislation and practice - 28 law and media students acquired practical and theoretical knowledge on personal data protection. The Winter School was launched on 28 January and completed on 3 February.

A week-long program focused on a range of topics of personal data protection. Technologies and data protection, social networks and Big Data, modern tendencies of personal data protection and the reform of the European Union data protection rules, Georgian case law, data security and cybercrime were the key topics of the Winter School. The lectures were delivered by the leading national and international experts: Waltraut Kotschy, Mario Osswald, Giorgi Tkavadze and Giorgi Pirveli, the representatives of the Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector: Nina Sarishvili, Nato Gugava and Natalia Mikeladze.

Along with the study program the students participated in the informal social activities as well. The participants visited Kvareli winery for wine tasting. They also took opportunity to take part in the process of making the local bread and traditional Georgian confection Churchkhela.

The Winter School was organised by the Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector with the assistance of the European Union, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in close cooperation with International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and Training Center of Justice.
