On January 28 the International Data Protection day is celebrated in Georgia and globally. On this occasion the Winter School on Data Protection was launched.

Within the scope of the week-long Winter School students will acquire information about the importance and modern tendencies, as well as contemporary challenges of personal data protection through the discussion of Georgian and international legislation. The participants will also discuss the balance between the right to privacy and freedom of expression and the measures to ensure the data security. The Winter School program also covers the issue of crime prevention and the practice of European Court of Human Rights. During the Winter School the students will have opportunity to meet the leading Georgian and international experts of the field.

The Personal Data Protection Inspector Mrs Tamar Kaldani addressed the participants of the Winter School. “We hope that upon completion of the Winter School you will be the ambassadors in the field of personal data protection”- stated Mrs Kaldani.

The Winter School is organised by the Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector with the assistance of the European Union, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in close cooperation with International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and Training Center of Justice.

The International Data Protection day, also called “Privacy Day” is celebrated since 2007 with the decision of the Council of Europe. It has been celebrated in Georgia for the fourth time this year.
