“Our objective is to enhance the successful part of the reform and to ensure that the existing standards are not lowered”- Personal Data Protection Inspector attended the first meeting of the parliamentary working group.

Mrs Tamar Kaldani noted that the issues revealed in these two years of practice should also be addressed within the working group. “The court has discussed certain dimensions of the topic, however, there still remain specific issues the Constitutional Court decision does not incorporate.

We are exercising the oversight power over the data processing in the police sector that has been assigned to the Inspector in accordance with the international commitments. However, we should discuss the mechanisms of the parliamentary control over those directions that transcend Inspector’s mandate (these directions include: security, defense and counterintelligence activities).” – stated the Personal Data Protection Inspector.

The working group was set up to implement the Constitutional Court Decision of April 14, 2016. By the Decision, current rules on real-time collection of personal information and copying and storing identification data were declared as unconstitutional. The legislative amendments shall be elaborated by March 31, 2017.
