The Personal Data Protection Inspector calls on law enforcement agencies to launch an immediate investigation on the legality of obtaining and leaking audio recording onto the internet.

The Constitution of Georgia, as well as current laws create the guarantee of privacy protection. Both telephone and conversation by other technical means are covered, and in case of a violation of rights, the state is obliged to respond immediately and effectively. The state’s obligation is particularly important when it comes to pre-election periods, election candidates, and media outlets.

The Inspector has expressed readiness to respond within the framework of her competence. She calls on Paata Burchuladze and Nika Gvaramia to provide information about both the authenticity of the communication and the used channels.
