A training was held for the staff of the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refuges of Georgia on personal data protection issues on the 2nd and 3rd of August, 2016. The aim of the meeting was to raise the standards of personal data protection.

On the first day of the training session, the Training Manager of the Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector of Georgia, Natalia Mikeladze, discussed issues in the field of personal data protection. These issues included the importance of personal data protection, legal grounds for data processing, the Inspector’s mandate, data subjects’ rights, and modern challenges regarding personal data protection.

The second day of the training was dedicated to the practical aspects that participants of the training have been facing in the process of their daily work. Participants were provided with information on the rules of processing documents, including information about personal data. They also analyzed current problems and agreed on methods of problem resolution.

“Aimed at setting high standards for data processing, it is essential to implement internal regulations and procedures for compliance of the process of data processing in line with the law. The Office of the Inspector welcomes the Ministry’s initiatives and expresses the readiness to provide additional consultations to improve data protection standards,” Natalia Mikeladze said.

The training was organized with the assistance of the project Enhancing Georgia’s Migration Management (ENIGMMA), implemented by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).
