Personal Data Protection Inspector is Attending 59th Meeting of the Berlin Group

59th meeting of International Working Group on Data Protection in Telecommunications (Berlin Group) was opened on April 25, 2016. Personal Data Protection Inspector of Georgia, Mrs. Tamar Kaldani and representative of International Relations Department of the Inspector’s Office, Ms. Nino Tsagareishvili are participating in the meeting of the Group for the first time.

Important issues related to data protection are discussed at the meetings of the Berlin Group. This year data protection and security in the internet communications were discussed, including Google’s new privacy policy, specificity of biometric data processing and establishment of international standards of data protection throughout social networks.

Reports from different countries on the updates related to data protection in telecommunications will be presented at the meeting; the report from Georgia is also submitted for presentation.

“Participation in the work of the Berlin Group constitutes for us new opportunity. Existing challenges and innovative ways of their overcoming are discussed at the meeting, all this issues are very important in the era of modern technologies. We actively use any international platform in order to establish data protection European standards in our country”– mentioned the Inspector.

The Office of Personal Data Protection Inspector became a member of Berlin Group in March, 2016. The aim of the Group is to elaborate different recommendations in the area of telecommunication, including improvement of data protection in the internet.
