Special Statement of Personal Data Protection Inspector

Despite the efforts of different state agencies, there are continuous attempts to disseminate previously announced video material and threats. One more large-scale case will be added to the current investigations. Society has lost hope for rapid and effective investigation of these hardest crimes.
Our citizens revealed high self-consciousness and readiness to cooperate with investigational authorities. Society declares that it will not allow blackmailing and one’s private life does not concern others.
Today, such consolidated society requires mobilization of resources to address existing challenges and specific action plan, which will ensure:

  1. That weaknesses of investigation are analyzed and existing gaps are eliminated as soon as possible;
  2. Participation of foreign professionals and services, having experience in the similar cases, in the investigational process; Transparency of investigational process;
  3. Minimization of damage caused to the society by infringement of privacy;
  4. That the reforms in order to raise effectiveness of investigational bodies are continued and legislative guarantees to protect right to privacy are strengthened.

There is no time to be lost; I would like to ask Mr. Prime-Minister and Parliament of Georgia to determine coordinating agency or group, which will be responsible for preparing of complex action plan and for its implementation. From my side, I would like to express readiness for active participation in any process, which will stop violation of right to privacy and faulty practice of blackmailing.
