On February 15, 2016 staff of the Central Election Commission (CEC) was trained on personal data protection issues. The training was led by Mrs. Natalia Mikeladze, Training Manager at the Office of Personal Data Protection Inspector.

Staff of different units of the CEC participated in the training. The training addressed the Law of Georgia on Personal Data Protection, mandate and functions of the Inspector, supervision on personal data processing by the Inspector and data subjects’ rights. According to the Training Manager of the Inspector’s Office, the aim of the training was to raise awareness of the representatives of the election administration on data processing.

As stated by Ms. Tamar Shukakidze, the Head of Human Resource Management Service at the CEC, the goal of the training is to establish personal data protection standards at the election administration. “High volume of personal data is processed at the CEC, including voters’ lists. Particularly each structural unit has access to personal data daily, therefore, our will is to act within the legal frames” – stated Ms. Shukakidze.

The Office of Personal Data Protection Inspector continues trainings for different public and private organizations, in order to duly interpret norms on personal data protection and respond to all practical questions of data controllers.

Next training sessions for the CEC staff will be carried out on February 19 and 29.
