Personal Data Protection- training for journalists

Importance and practice of personal data protection, balance between personal data protection and the freedom of expression- The Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector held a seminar for journalists.

The meeting with the representatives of the media was held on 10-11 June, in Borjomi with the assistance of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development through the project “ENIGMMA”.

Around 20 representatives of television, online and print media met with the Inspector and the staff of the Inspector’s Office to discuss the crucial aspects of personal data protection. Among the issues addressed during the two-day seminar were the legislative amendments converning the covert investigative activities, media and protection of personal data, protection of data and migration.

The representatives of the media were particularly interested in the Inspector’s mandate within the scope of the recent legislative amendments, oversight over law enforcement, as well as the statistics and the specific cases revealed throughout the Inspector’s practice. The discussion also addressed the topics concerning the balance between protection of personal data and informing society.

Within the scope of the seminar, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Office of the State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration presented on the information campaigns with regards to visa liberalization and the rules of visa-free travel to the EU.
