The Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector participated in the discussion of the legislative amendments regarding gambling regulations

Prevention of involvement of persons below 21 years of age in online gambling, self-regulation mechanisms and existing challenges - the Parliament of Georgia launched working on the respective legislative amendments. The representatives of the Inspector’s Office, Dimitri Gugunava and Salome Bakhsoliani participated in the discussion dedicated to the concept of the anticipated legislative amendments drafted by the parliamentary working group.

The meeting, attended by the representatives of the parliament, the government and non-governmental organisations, concentrated on the regulation of the gambling industry, age censorship, self-regulation mechanisms and other related topics.

The representatives of the Inspector’s Office expressed their opinions regarding the concept of legislative amendments and anticipated regulation: “the system should be devised in a manner that it incorporates protection of personal data and avoids infringement of citizens’ rights. We are eager to participate in the consultations at any stage, either in establishment of normative basis, or enhancement of the technical capabilities”-stated Dimitri Gugunava.

The meeting was organised in cooperation with the National-Democratic Institute (NDI) through the financial assistance of the United Kingdom’s financial assistance (UK Aid).
