Education and Personal Data Protection – The Inspector’s Office Held Meetings with Higher Education Institutions

On 12-13 October 2017, the staff of the Personal Data Protection Inspector of Georgia held meetings with the representatives of higher education institutions in Batumi and Kutaisi. The purpose of the meetings was to inform the representatives of educational institutions about personal data protection legislation; in addition, the meetings provided students and academic personnel with the information on the importance of personal data protection and the role of the Inspector in this regard.

The meetings focused on the most important issues of personal data protection for the educational institutions. The representatives of the Inspector’s Office presented the Inspector’s recent recommendation on personal data protection for higher education institutions. Educational materials were disseminated at the meetings.

The meetings were held with the support of the joint UN and EU project “Human Rights for All”, which aims to support protection of human rights in Georgia.

The strengthening of personal data protection in Georgia is one of the priorities of “Human Rights for All”, the joint initiative of the European Union and United Nations. With the budget of over EUR 4 million, the three-year programme supports the implementation of the National Human Rights Strategy and Action Plan.
