Informational Meetings in Batumi

Representatives of the Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector Ms. Eka Gordadze, Senior Lawyer and Mr. Otar Cahkhunashvili, Head of the Public and Private Sector Oversight Unit visited Batumi on July 28-30 in order to inspect one of the private data controllers. At the same time they met the representatives of the government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and media outlets.

On July 30, at the meeting with the representatives of the Office of the government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Ministries of education, Sports and Culture, Health and Social Welfare issues like legal grounds for the data processing, access to the databases and their disclosure, mechanisms of the protection of the citizens’ rights and the work of the Office of the Inspector were discussed.

On July 31 at the Center of the Civic Engagement of Batumi the representatives of the Office of the Inspector presented the activities of the Office and results of the dealing with the citizens’ complaints and conducted inspections to the non-governmental organizations. Special attention was payed to the protection of the personal data while requesting the public information.

“The Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector regularly provides telephone as well as the written consultations, but the vis-�-vis meetings are also very important. The asked questions and discussed issues proof that the interest towards the personal data protection is very high and implementation of the law in practice has succeed. We plan to have such meetings at the local level also in the future” – said Ms. Eka Gordadze.
