“Function Effectively” – the European Commission evaluates the activities of the Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector of Georgia

The European Commission released the Association Implementation Report on Georgia that evaluates the progress achieved towards implementation of EU-Georgia Association Agreement.

The report underscores Georgia’s European aspirations and the country’s commitment to carry out reforms. “With its sustained reform efforts and ambition to develop further its relations with the EU, Georgia has consolidated its position of a key and strategic partner in the region” – reads the document.

With regards to the Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector of Georgia, the European Commission underlines that “the Independent Data Protection Supervisory Authority continues to function effectively”. Furthermore, the report highlights that the revised law on surveillance entered into force in April 2017 in order to bring surveillance regulations in line with the Constitutional Court’s decision of 2016.

It is the second joint Association Implementation Report on Georgia released by the European Commission and the European External Actions Service. The document reflects progress achieved since December 2016 including the end of 2017. The Association Implementation Report is released annually in order to evaluate the state of play of implementation of Georgia’s Association Agenda and assess the reforms undertaken and the progress achieved.
