Personal Data Protection Inspector Submitted 2014 Report to the Committee on Legal Affairs of the Parliament of Georgia

On March 17, 2015 Personal Data Protection Inspector, Mrs. Tamar Kaldani submitted 2014 Report on the State of Personal Data Protection in Georgia to the Legal Committee of the Parliament of Georgia.

Mrs. Tamar Kaldani presented results of the complaints reviewed, as well as the results of inspections and noted that the biggest data controllers have been inspected during the last year. In total, 13 organizations have been inspected and 3 of them were fined.

In 2014, Inspector has reviewed the complaints of 30 citizens; up to 1000 consultations were provided to citizens, as well as to public and private organizations, in addition, more than 1400 employees were trained.

Inspector has been asked regarding the new function of the Office, according to which two-staged electronic system will be established since March 31, 2015. "Last year, amendments have been made to the legislation through active cooperation with the Legal Committee. We are working 24 hours a day to prepare and get ready for March 31” - said Mrs. Tamar Kaldani.

Inspector particularly emphasized the topic related to the video surveillance and presented results of the inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on the lawfulness of data processing for border control purposes, which resulted in establishing a new standard by the Ministry of Interior. Under amended procedures, photographing at the border check points will take place only in exceptional circumstances. Besides, visible warning signs on video surveillance were placed at borders and the term for storage of the data processed for border control purposes was defined.

Inspector, Tamar Kaldani will also submit this Annual Report to the Committee on Human Rights and Civil Integration of the Parliament of Georgia.
