The Mandate of the Personal Data Protection Inspector Extends over The private sector

From November 1, The Georgian Law on “Persona Data Protection” will be fully enacted towards the private sector. That means that authority of Personal Data Protection Inspector will apply to the both, the public and private sector.

The Inspector is already authorized to investigate (inspect) lawfulness of the data processing in private sector on the basis of citizens’ complaints or on its own initiative. In case if the violence of the data protection legislation will be revealed the Inspector will be able to use the sanctions defined by law, including fines.

Any citizen, who considers, that his/her rights in the area of the personal data protection are violated, can make a complaint.
