Sale of electronic databases comprising personal data becomes more frequent. For example, according to one of such offers – cost of names, surnames, birthdates and telephone numbers of 1 400 000 persons is 100 GEL, and database of 120 000 persons’ e-mails - 70 GEL. The number of the citizens concerned with this issue and applying to the Office of the Personal Data Protection Inspector is increasingly high.

Every person purchasing the database comprising personal data becomes data controller and is responsible for the legitimacy of the personal data collection and also for ensuring protection of the citizens’ rights, such as providing information, terminating data processing upon the request of the data subject, ensuring data security, etc.

Personal Data Protection Inspector calls on the owners of the databases and potential purchasers to respect the rights of the citizens to the personal data protection and exercise their activities in line with the law.
